Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that uses orthopedic surgeons to see within a joint and repair abnormalities there.

An orthopedic surgeon makes a small incision in the patient’s skin and inserts pencil-sized equipment with a small lens and lighting system to magnify and illuminate the structures inside the joint during arthroscopic surgery. Light is sent to the end of the arthroscope that is put into the joint through fiber optics.

The surgeon can see the interior of the joint through this extremely small incision rather than the bigger incision required for open surgery by attaching the arthroscope to a miniature camera.

Dr. Gajanan Deshmukh is an Expert in Arthroscopy Surgery. He has More than 10 years of Experience in Arthroscopy.

How is arthroscopy performed?

Although arthroscopic surgery is less invasive than open surgery in terms of recovery, it still necessitates the use of anesthetics and specialized equipment in a hospital operating room or outpatient surgical suite. Depending on the joint or suspected ailment, you will be given general, spinal, or local anesthesia.

The arthroscope will be inserted through a small incision (about the size of a buttonhole). Different incisions may be necessary to see other portions of the joint or to implant other equipment.

Specially specialized tools are inserted into the joint through accessory incisions during corrective surgery. Initially, arthroscopy was only used as a diagnostic tool for planning open surgery. However, with the advancement of better instruments and surgical procedures, arthroscopy techniques can now be used to treat a wide range of diseases.

The minor incisions will be covered with a dressing after arthroscopic surgery. From the operation area, you will be transferred to a recovery room. Many individuals just require a small amount of pain medication.
